I had so much fun putting together my capsule wardrobe for this month. I chose to use colors that felt summery, patriotic, and fun- red, white, blue, mustard yellow and blush pink.
Below I am sharing my entire July Capsule, but first here’s the backstory as to why I rotate my Capsule Wardrobe monthly.
For the last few years, as I have adopted the Capsule Wardrobe approach into my closet, I have done (and continue to do) a lot of work in regards to editing my wardrobe and honing in on my true style. It has helped me tremendously in living with less + being more intentional on what I purchase and why. BUT- I was noticing one major problem.
I was seeing a pattern of feeling overwhelmed with the choices of what to wear, even after editing down my closet to about 1/3 of what I used to own. When I would step into my closet to choose an outfit, I was rotating through and wearing a very small amount of what was actually in my closet, and these items were mostly neutral basics. Now, in a true + very strict capsule approach, editing down to the minimum of what you need and actually love to wear is the point. But for me, I still had a closet full of clothes I loved, but had a hard time choosing because there was too many options available at once. I was bored with picking the same basics every time, but couldn’t break out of the cycle. I wanted my capsule wardrobe to be fun!
After putting much thought into this dilemma, I came up with an idea that I have been trying out for the last few months, and I’m loving the result! Each month I choose a color scheme, and select only the items I will wear for that month’s capsule, then the rest gets packed away. In a typical capsule wardrobe, there is an emphasis on neutral colors so that everything can coordinate easily. I do really love neutrals, but I also love color. Choosing a few colors each month to go with my neutral base allows me to still have a variety of color in my wardrobe, but without it all being available (and overwhelming to choose from) at once.
Each month my wardrobe feels inspired and fresh. When I unpack my clothes from the storage bins each month to create my next month’s wardrobe it’s like going shopping in my own closet. My clothes feel new to me again and I am excited to wear them. The other positive that has come from this, is that I feel good shopping and adding a few pieces here and there that tie into a color scheme idea, or inspire a color scheme. For someone like me who likes to shop, but wants to do it intentionally, this method allows for a few new and sometimes “trendy” pieces to come in here and there. And who doesn’t love that?
Here is an overview of my July Capsule Wardrobe. I have provided links for you to shop my wardrobe. This month my wardrobe consists of:
